CSI LCS to highlight awareness on dangers of inadequate IT disposal and raise funds for Sheffield Chamber’s charity of the year, Sheffield Young Carers
WHO: Whoever is responsible for keeping your data secure in accordance with the Data Protection Act or is interested in seeing the demo WHERE:1-2 Chambers Way, Thorncliffe Business Park, Chapeltown, S35 2PH WHEN: 9am – 4pm, Thursday 20th September WHAT (TO BRING): Old hard drives, CDs, DVDs, mobile phones, tape media, etc. WHY: Protect your data, avoid cost of a data breach, and get 100% peace of mind that your data is destroyed and show good practice with comprehensive reporting
How do you destroy information held on old IT equipment when you dispose of it?
Is pressing delete enough?
If you send equipment away to be wiped and sold to another user, how do you know for sure that your data has been removed safely?
What happens if a mistake is made and your data ended up in the wrong hands?
The event will take place from 9am to 4pm on Thursday 20th September. Local organisations are invited to come along and bring with them old hard drives, CDs, DVDs and other media containing sensitive information that they would like to see shredded.
All items will be shredded in our custom-build Data Destruction Recycling Vehicle (DDRV), which has been a significant investment for CSI Lifecycle Services and replicates the service offered by our sister company EPC, Inc. in North America. The video below shows how the whole shredding process works:
Businesses of all sizes collect information about customers, staff, suppliers and business activities. If mistakes happen during the equipment disposal process resulting in a data breach, your business is at risk of reputational damage, costs which could run in to millions and fines of up to £500,000.
Once the shredding process is complete, the fragments can be separated and then recycled for use in other products. CSI Lifecycle Services is donating all proceeds from the metal recycling to Sheffield Young Carers, an independent charity who provide support to young carers. Sheffield Young Carers was recently chosen as the Charity of the Year for Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking about the open day, Barry Naylor, Managing Director of CSI Lifecycle Services said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to give something back to the local community. Businesses need to be aware of the risks they face if they dispose of their IT equipment without having a policy for destroying their data.” Naylor added, “It is also fantastic to be helping out a great local charity which helps to improve the lives of inspirational young carers.”
